This is an urban regeneration project which purpose is to reinforce the perception of safety through the implementation of recreational areas that propose a constant and participative use to the citizen. The basic needs regarding the park are established by the community through interactive workshops, this serves to establish a basic program which was complemented by the analysis of the place and the area.
The role of park space is a fundamental articulator of pedestrian circulation and mobility for the neighborhood, as it is an obligatory point of passage between the housing area and the points of connection with public transport and one of the main perimeter arteries of the city. Pedestrian circulation and accessibility were strengthened through their functional value and roles as articulators of proposed activities, urban environment, and public space.
The topography is an enhancer element of scenic value of the place. Because of the height and location, we take advantage of the platforms as natural lookouts, these are tied with paths that visually dominate the urban landscape while solving the need for circulation.
The importance of the perimeter of the park as a permeable element of nexus with the neighborhood and as a security barrier to the busy avenues that surround it. In response, children’s recreation areas were opened to the dwelling fronts, which also have adequate spaces for permanence. Thus, the first community contact areas invite children to play while their parents can observe them from their homes or from the wooden platforms and neighboring benches. While the fronts that represent risk by its vicinity with a transited avenue or by its height become scenic walks, establishing marked but visibly permeable limits with the city.
The Cul de Sac, by its position and height with respect to the central esplanade of the park, divides it into two marked areas and generates a narrow and dirty connection between them. Unable to eliminate this stretch of road, it is decided to integrate it into the design as an element of pedestrian circulation, lining it with a slope resolved through ramps, platforms, and planters. Additionally, the perimeter road that connects the two main areas of the park is elevated, increasing it, making it wider and finally connecting it to well-defined access points on the front related to the connections to urban transport.
